چکیده

Millimeter-wave (CO) observations of optically-selected QSOs are potentially a powerful tool for studying the properties of both the QSOs and their host galaxies. We summarize here a recent molecular gas survey of z < 0.17 optical QSOs with infrared (IR) excess, LIR(8 − 1000μm)/Lbbb(0.1 − 1.0μm) > 0.36. Eight of these QSOs have been detected to date in CO(1 → 0), and the derived molecular gas masses are in the range 1.7−35×10 M⊙. The high LIR/L ′ CO of QSOs relative to the bulk of the local (z < 0.2) IR luminous galaxy merger population is indicative of significant heating of dust (LIR) by the QSO nucleus and/or by massive stars created in the host galaxy with high efficiency (i.e., per unit molecular gas, L′CO).

Molecular Gas in Infrared-excess, Optically-selected Qsos and the Connection with Infrared Luminous Galaxies

The initial results of a millimeter (CO) survey of infrared-excess, optically-selected quasars from the Palomar-Green (PG) Bright Quasar Survey (BQS) with redshifts in the range 0.04 < z < 0.17 are presented. These observations represent the first step towards establishing with a complete sample whether or not quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) reside in molecular gas-rich galaxies, as well as toward...

The evolutionary connection between QSOs and SMGs: molecular gas in farinfrared luminous QSOs at z2.5

We present Institut de Radioastronomie Millimétrique Plateau de Bure Interferometer observations of the 12CO (3–2) emission from two far-infrared luminous QSOs at z ∼ 2.5 selected from the Herschel-Astrophysical Tetrahertz Large Area Survey. These far-infrared bright QSOs were selected to have supermassive black holes (SMBHs) with masses similar to those thought to reside in submillimetre galax...

The Pedigrees of DOGs (Dust-Obscured Galaxies)

A simple mid-infrared to optical color criterion of R − [24] ≥ 14 results in a robust selection of approximately half of the z ∼ 2 ultraluminous infrared galaxy (ULIRG) population. These ‘Dust-Obscured Galaxies’, or DOGs, have various properties that suggest that they are good candidates for systems in a transition phase between gas-rich mergers and QSOs.

STAR FORMATION IN THE HOSTS OF HIGH-z QSOs: EVIDENCE FROM SPITZER PAH DETECTIONS

We present Spitzer rest frame mid-infrared spectroscopy of 12 z 2 millimeter-bright type 1 QSOs, selected from unlensed and lensed QSO samples and covering a range of AGN optical luminosities L5100 1⁄4 1045Y10 erg s . On top of the AGN continuum, we detect PAH emission from luminous star formation in nine objects individually, as well as in the composite spectrum for the full sample. PAH lumino...
